Q, also known as Quetzalcoatl or The Winged Serpent, was a creature which appeared in the 1982 fantasy-horror movie Q- The Winged Serpent. Although described as a winged serpent, Q in fact resembled far more closely a dragon. Tan in colour, she had four limbs, a pair of great bat-like wings, and a beak similar to that of a bird on the end of a long, flexible neck.In the middle of a series of bizarre and gruesome murders in New York, small-time criminal Jimmy Quinn decided to hide in the roof space beneath the needle of the Chrysler Building after a diamond heist went wrong. After Quinn's criminal associates caught up with him looking for the diamonds which they believed he had stolen, Quinn took them to Q's lair in desperation, where the beast devoured the pair. Meanwhile, sightings of Q had been reported from across the Big Apple, with the monster claiming a new victim every day. Finally, in exchange for immunity from prosecution and a large sum of cash, Quinn decided to tell the police the location of the nest. SWAT teams and regular police ascended the tower and discovered the animal's egg, which they shot until no life remained within.

The comments mentioned the Denzel Washington movie John Q., which piqued my curiosity. We watched the movie, and I couldn’t help but notice its striking resemblance to Luigi Mangione’s story. The difference lies in the details: in John Q., it’s John’s son who is dying and needs a heart transplant, which is denied by both the hospital and the insurance company.Like John Q., Luigi Mangione was described by his colleagues as compassionate and kind. He had no history of trouble – no prior arrests or offenses. John Q.’s desperation stemmed from being an ordinary factory worker whose company downgraded his health insurance.Unlike John Q., Luigi Mangione came from an educated, Ivy League background and a supposedly well-off family. His grandfather was reportedly wealthy, but in the U.S., your grandparents’ money isn’t yours.

Q (1982)

In Q: The Winged Serpent, Larry gives me everything I could want: I've got Michael Moriarty acting like his fucking life depended on it. I've got mayhem on the streets of NYC. I've got a female FLYING SERPENT eating the shit out of people. What more could a girl ask for? This is one of my favorite monster movies AND one of my favorite casts from Carradine, Clark, and Roundtree right down to tony page and the dude who played the jerk rival to jim Carey in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (the one who stomped on the cockroach). MICHAEL MORIARTY + LARRY COHEN = yes. All of the yes. I'm convinced Moriarty never reads a script and just makes up all of his lines as he goes along, there really is no one quite like him. There aren't enough movies about Quetzalcoatl, feathered serpent god of the Aztec pantheon, so trashmaster Larry Cohen's low budget creature feature is a welcome addition to the fold. Quetzalcoatl, or Q for short, since no-one in this movie can pronounce it, has been brought back to life in downtown NYC by cultists performing ritual sacrifices in its name.A giant flying serpent is attacking the citizens of NYC and I doubt anyone would be surprised to know I was rooting for Q the whole time. This is one of those movies that I had never seen until now, but I am very familiar with that fabulous VHS art. I can’t tell you why I never rented it growing up, but I’ve always loved that cover. In Q: The Winged Serpent, Larry gives me everything I could want: I've got Michael Moriarty acting like his fucking life depended on it. Oh wait, this movie has Ron "The Penguin" Cey from my beloved 70s Dodgers.

It's an excellent movie and succeeds best because of it's quirky qualities. An excellent B-movie cast combined with Cohen's wonderfully realistic dialogue makes for some excellent characters. The uneven effects actually add to the fun of this movie if you can appreciate low budget horror. Q constantly amazes me with its quirky attitude, great sense of humor (maybe the window washer's head "just fell off" says one of the detectives), creative characters, camp value, and energetic cast.Ex-con Jimmy Quinn (Micheal Moriarty) is the only living person who knows where it resides. And it's up to Detective Shepard (David Carradine) and Sergent Powell (Richard Roundtree) to find the creature in this cheese-fest. This is one of those films that you have to check your brain at the door for. Unlike most of Cohen's directorial efforts there's not even a hint of social commentary in here. Mindless entertainment B-movie fluff, but really GOOD mindless entertainment B-movie fluff.

Q: The Movie (1999) ⭐ 4.6 | Comedy

Q: The Movie: Directed by Barry Bowles. With Brian Hooks, Nikaya D. Brown Jones, Keno K. Deary, Calvin Stillwell. A young man throwing the cookout to end all cookouts finds his party is skidding off the rails. I'm not sure if I just saw a rap music video or a movie. This really has to be one of the worst movies I have seen in a while. When I was renting, I saw the cover of this movie, and it actually looked like a funny independent movie that had a few good laughs, boy, was I wrong. It was majorly degrading and not to mention, it was very crummy film making. It just seemed like a bunch of "gangsta" friends got together and thought how cool it would be to make another "Friday" type of movie, except just make it even more racist and stereotypical. This movie is insulting to humanity in general. So, if anyone else sees this movie and is curious just by the cover, believe me, it's not worth it. The acting, film making, and so called "music" is just down right horrible. It is basically a BBQ type of movie. It takes a little from House Party, Friday Don't Be A Menace and every other bored teens movie. I guess the difference is this was an independent film made for peanuts compared to the budgets of even Friday or Next Friday.

During the 1980s, director Akio Jissoji attempted to create a new entry in the Ultraman Series. In 1984, Tsuburaya Productions planned a theatrical film titled "Ultra Q: Monster Concerto" (ウルトラQ 怪獣協奏曲, Urutora Kyū Kaijū Kyōsōkyoku), written by Mamoru Sasaki and supervised by Shinichi Sekizawa. The movie was intended as a tribute to Eiji Tsuburaya. This is the last movie to use Tsuburaya's style of opening credits. The film's director, Akio Jissoji, previously directed many Ultraman Series episodes, as well as a 1979 film compiling his episodes of Ultraman. In 2011, an unreleased script of the film Ultra Q: Monster Concerto was discovered in the Mamoru Sasaki Memorial Room in Nomi City, Ishikawa Prefecture. This sequence was to be the opening of the Ultra Q. Garamon: Written by Kazunori Ito, this story was adapted from the episode 13 of the original series. Additionally, Mitsuru Shimada contributed a fantasy-oriented story that did not feature any monsters. The project ultimately came to an abrupt halt. The main issue arose from the exclusive merchandising rights to the Ultraman monsters being owned by Bandai, which prevented the movie's sponsor, Sega, from selling toys of the monsters featured in the film.
