Why was John Q bad?
Main Post:
I remember seeing this movie as a kid for the first time in 2016 and i loved it loved it. Loved everything about it except that Duvall didnt even say anything to John at the end. Maybe some “Im sorry this is happening but its the law” would have been nice to see and hear. But him just staring at John until John gets into the car was not a good choice in my opinion to leave it at that. Obviously loved Denzel’s performance he doesnt even know how to do a bad performance. He is good in everything he does. I also want to know Why do people say this movie is bad. I mean i even see comments like “This movie is “mid” at best. I mean come on on what do they even base that this movie is bad?? What do they think that the movie could have done better?I really want to know
Top Comment: I like it, but it does come across as very cheesy, on the nose with its messaging and overly sentimental/dramatic. I know with the subject matter that’s not exactly surprising, but it definitely has that kind of feel to it.
Q: The Winged Serpent (1982).

I love this one. Michael Moriarty really chews it up and plays a similar character as the guy he plays in The Stuff.
David Carradine and Richard Roundtree and a fun stop motion quetzlcoatl.
Larry Cohen fans will have seen this already but it may be new for some people. I knew about it for years before seeing it because of the memorable VHS cover I'd see at Blockbuster

This is such a good movie. I also used to see it at Blockbuster and rented it all the time as a kid, but I never understood how good of a movie it actually was. I was just into the monster, but damn does Moriarty shine. Also the ridiculous jazz song about the gun is hilarious. I just watched it earlier this month and boy does it hold up. It might actually be his best movie.

Need help with a movie title similar to John Q.
Main Post:
The movie is about the protagonist who brought his sick child to the hospital but the hospital refused to take their child in. So they went to another hospital but on their drive to the next hospital the kid died. im not sure what happened next but i think its a revenge/violent unlike john q.
I just watched john q thinking that it was the movie i remembered but johns kid lived. I enjoyed john q but now cant find the movie i thought it was. Thanks in advance.
Top Comment:
This is most likely not it but what you are saying sort of reminds me of Fractured. The only problem is That the hospital at first does take the child but then the father spends the rest of the movie trying to find his kid and wife and the hospital keeps denying that they are there.
Maybe this is the movie but I hope you find the movie
"John Q." (2022), featuring Denzel Washington, feels very much of the moment right now
Main Post:
I was in High School when John Q. came out and it really was the first movie to expose me to the US healthcare system. As a healthy teenager with an upper middle class upbringing, my only first hand knowledge of health care system was getting shots, physicals, etc. Nothing major.
Watching this movie opened my eyes to the horrors of our health care system and has stayed with me all these years. I know it isn't a great movie by any means but it made an impression on me of a man who would do anything for his child in a system you expect to help him. Instead you learn how bad the system is and what is forces a man of conviction to do.
As with the news, I flashed back to this moving thinking of what drives a man to violence when he is trampled by the system. How doing something crazy is sometimes the sanest option you have left.
Top Comment: Perhaps you mean 2002?
Movie John Q with Denzel
Main Post:
I can't even watch it it's fucking sick! He had full coverage insurance and for what? To STILL owe $250K for surgery or else his minor child was sentenced to death.

Copyright Q: montage of short movie clips
Main Post:
I want to use a collage of movie clips in a video to explain and promote a new product. Each clip will be about five seconds long, with the total runtime of the video being either 15 or 30 seconds, consisting mostly of these clips along with some original footage.
I understand that some media and copyrights allow for "fair use" if the content is brief, doesn't reflect poorly own the original, and is very incidental to story of the original. I will not be selling the actual new videos, but they will be used to promote a commercial product. Would this be permissible with films and movies?
If not, is there an easy way to acquire the rights to do this? Is there a central organization, similar to what exists in the recording industry, where I can pay to license the content for my use?
We already use custom or purchased stock footage to do something similarly, but having the scenes be recognizable ones from movies would somewhat humorously add to our message.
Top Comment:
If the movies are in the public domain (like those made before 1929), then you’re good to go. However, if they aren’t, using them would constitute copyright infringement not subject to fair use.
You can try to license clips from each of the copyright holders. But you should prepare for it to be incredibly expensive.
